Oxfordshire: The Butchers Arms wins regional pub of the year

Aug 09, 2023

A North Oxfordshire pub has won a regional award and progressed to the final stages of a national competition.

The Butchers Arms in Balscote was named regional pub of the year for Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

The Victorian country inn will now compete against 15 other regional winners from across the country for the CAMRA's national Pub of the Year award.

“We could not have achieved this without the support of our customers," the pub said in a social media post.

The grade II-listed pub has been run by Hook Norton Brewery since 1878 and still has the original ice house in the garden.

A CAMRA spokesperson said: “It is a splendid Hook Norton country pub that serves its three Hook Norton ales on gravity from pins, from a stillage behind the bar.

“It is also a most welcoming and community-focused pub.”
